Lily Allen se está revelando como el último eslabón en la larga cadena de cantantes británicos boquiflojos: luego de declarar que vendió drogas para vivir en algún momento de su adolescencia, la revelación del pop inglés se despachó contra... la reina del pop estadounidense. A la hora de elegirse las enemigas, Allen apunta alto: según Lily, la mismísima Madonna es “la cantante más sobrevalorada de la historia”.

“Yo nunca digo nada sin motivo. Un periodista me preguntó quien era el artista pop más sobrevalorado de todos los tiempos. Y ‘sobrevalorado’, para mi, significa alguien que vende muchos discos por quién es. No creo que nadie compre discos de Madonna porque los consideren buenos”.

No es esta la primera vez que la autora de “Smile” se tira contra la ex “chica material”: en agosto del año pasado había declarado que “quizás haya sido algo hace mucho, pero no conozco mucha gente de mi edad a la que le importe”.

Hace tiempo que la famosa tríada de sexo, drogas y rock & roll dejó de ser terreno exclusivo de los rockeros. Desde los hippies que pregonaban su buena onda, los punkies y su espíritu antisistémico hasta los rockstars destructores de hoteles; cada década y estilo musical tuvo algo así como su grupo de inadaptados sociales que sazonaban la escena y ocupaban las portadas de los principales periódicos con sus extravagancias y desmanes típicos del estrellato. Hoy la cosa adquirió un giro interesante: ya no son los chicos quienes cumplen este rol, sino que las chicas tomaron la posta. Un puñado de pequeños diablillos que habitan en el cuerpo de dulces pop-stars encarnan a la nueva lacra musical. Sus nombres son por demás sabidos: Britney, Lindsay, Amy y Paris son algunas de ellas. Pero si de figuras poco convencionales estamos hablando, es menester detenerse en Lily Allen.

Talentosa y peleadora en iguales proporciones, ningún factor del ascenso a la fama de esta jovencita de veintiún años roza lo comúnmente aceptado. Hija del comediante Keith Allen y de la productora cinematográfica Alison Owen, Lily creció en una atmósfera humilde de la clase obrera inglesa en la que se respiraba arte. Ya desde pequeña se perfilaría como una chica predestinada a generarle dolores de cabeza a sus padres: su temprana afección por la marihuana y su buena predisposición a realizarle favores sexuales a sus compañeros de clase la pasearon por trece colegios diferentes durante su adolescencia. Mientras tanto, ella se procuraba una buena educación paralela a base de T-Rex y Happy Mondays.

El éxito no tardaría mucho en llegarle y, como todo en su vida, sería de manera poco usual. En medio del estallido de democratización que brindó internet y la facilidad para exponer el trabajo propio que llegó con myspace, Lily se convirtió en otra de las tantas figuritas anónimas que abrió su sitio y subió algunos demos. Será una simple cuestión de destino o misterios del ciber-espacio, lo cierto, es que en pocos meses y gracias al boca en boca la cantante recibió cientos de visitas que hicieron aumentar exponencialmente sus posibilidades de pegarla en el mercado musical.

La mismísima chiquilla problemática y polémica vio realizado el sueño propio: en julio del 2006, Allright, still aterrizó en las disquerías inglesas. Una brisa de frescura enlatada en once canciones dejaba en evidencia una exquisita sensibilidad para conjugar pop, reggae y rock en este singular juego de contrastes en el que, bajo una fachada musical alegre y optimista, desparramaba su poesía callejera y adolescente para nada ingenua. “Smile”, una irónica burla a un ex que la dejó y luego volvió en busca de más, “LDN” y un ¿inocente? paseo en bicicleta por la ciudad y la romántica melancolía de “Littlest thigs” representaron algunos de los tantos hits que cabalgaron por las principales radios alrededor del globo.

Sin embargo, los condimentos extra-musicales ayudaron a hacer de Lily mucho más que una simpática cantante. Su singular sentido de la moda en la que combina pomposos y coloridos vestidos de fiesta con zapatillas la hicieron una trend-setter entre las adolescentes. Pero sin duda el gen brit-bocón característico de los Gallagher es lo que la convirtió en abonada regular a los tabloides. En su prontuario figuran críticas e insultos a Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Amy Winehouse, George Bush (presidente del país que le negó la entrada, su visa fue revocada por un reciente altercado con un paparazzi londinense y debió supender la gira por el país) y Bob Geldof, entre otros, y frases calientes como “Los fans de Paris Hilton deberían ser asesinados”, esbozada poco después del lanzamiento del disco debut de la heredera, además de haber admitido públicamente que a la tierna edad de 15 años ya traficaba drogas.

Será fruto de la mixtura de una personalidad avasallante, mirada pícara, voz angelical y un estilo musical único lo que hicieron que Lily trazara un recorrido particular dentro del actual mapa musical inglés, convirtiéndose en uno de los fenómenos más sobresalientes surgidos de la escena pop de Gran Bretaña de los últimos tiempos. Y eso que va solo por su primer disco.

La artista, de 21 años, se presentará a las 21 en el estadio de Corrientes y Bouchard, con el grupo de rock Airbag como telonero. Con hits como "Smile" y "LDN", Lily Allen conquistó los rankings de las islas británicas a fuerza de melodías pegadizas y una personalidad arrolladora.

Jazz, samba, calipso, música dance, dub, canción francesa, reggae y rock fueron algunos de los ingredientes de "Allright Still", su disco debut. The full itinerary for Kelly Clarkson's rescheduled tour in support of My December will carry the singer through a 26-city outing. The trek begins with a string of three dates at the Beacon Theatre in New York (October 14-16) and also ropes in two home-state gigs, in Dallas and Houston. The seven-week tour — which replaces a scrapped summer tour — will have Clarkson playing more intimate theaters than the arenas she was originally booked into, including the Orpheum in Boston (October 23); Fillmore in Detroit (October 28); Paramount Theater in Denver (November 5); and the legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on December 3. ...

Usher made it official again on Saturday. The 28-year-old singer married pregnant wife Tameka Foster, 37, in a large, glitzy ceremony in Atlanta a few weeks after the pair got officially hitched in a civil ceremony. Hulk Hogan has spoken out on last week's car crash involving his son, Nick Bollea, saying he didn't think anyone had survived. "We were going to get something to eat and Nick paged me and said, 'Dad, I want to go early, because we don't have a table at the restaurant,' " he told TV's "The Insider" in an interview set to air Tuesday (September 4). "As I was going down our normal route, I saw this yellow car, and it happened to be twisted ... and there were ambulances there and police were there, and — bam — [I realized that] it was my car." Jeffrey Carter Albrecht, 34, who played keyboard for Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians since 1999, was shot and killed early Monday morning in Dallas while trying to kick in the door of his girlfriend's neighbor's house. The neighbor, who believed a burglar was trying to break in, fired a shot through the door around 4 a.m, according to The Associated Press. Albrecht, who had also played with Brickell's husband, Paul Simon, and who was prepping a solo album, died on the scene. No arrests had been made in the incident as of press time. ...

Speaking of Spears' personal life, Kevin Federline shouldn't have to foot the whole bill for the legal expenses in his divorce with her because he has "no net income" after various expenses and his monthly spousal support of $20,000 will end in November, his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said in a recent declaration. Spears, who makes $737,868 on average every month, is "clearly the 'monied party' " in the dispute and should pay $50,000 for Federline's litigation expenses, according to the declaration. ...

Looney Tunes, the legendary Long Island, New York, independent record store that regularly hosted in-store appearances for artists — including Lamb of God, Chiodos and Head Automatica most recently — was destroyed in a devastating blaze Wednesday evening. According to investigators, the cause of the fire was a faulty extension cord. The store's owners hope to rebuild the shop as soon as possible but claim hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise and memorabilia — including 57 autographed guitars and countless gold and platinum records — was consumed in the conflagration.
